After my friends got coffee here, we stopped back in to try their homemade ice cream. We had a cinnamon honey kind and a chocolate Guinness stout kind. They were both fantastic and reasonably priced. They also had many other already prepared foods from appetizers to desserts to meals. They make it easy for you if you do not want to cook. Definitely will stop here again!.

No need to ever cook while in Steamboat. The Drunken Onion has you covered. This is a to-go concept for fresh gourmet prepared foods that are stocked up in a self serve refrigerated case. the choices change by the hour as the chef whips up new menu items. You just grab and go. Only very high quality ingridients are used. This concept is a game changer for a traveling family with a vacation rental with a kitchen. Gourmet food without the hassle of going out or cooking.Just heat and serve.

Professional food made by professionals. Not the typical Steamboat joint where your food is prepared by some stoner kid.Highly recomended no pun intended.

Day old sandwiches and Angry Owner This place sells sandwiches. They make them in the morning and put them in the case. When they are gone, they are gone. I usually go close to closing when there are 1-2 sandwiches left, sometimes they are all gone. I grab whatever is left for dinner. I have always been charged about $4.75. this seems really low. I went in for lunch today and was charged 7$ (which I think is totally a fair price) I asked the person ringing me up if he was sure that was correct, as I've always been charged less, so I was a bit curious. He turned around and asked the two people behind him if that was correct. They said, "yes, that's our price. sometimes we have day old sandwiches that are $4.75." "Ok I said, fair enough, that must've been what I was charged for." I paid and left. 30 minutes later, the owner calls me and leaves an angry voicemail on my phone that I was rude to his employees and not to go back. uhhhhh. ok. Sorry i wasn't aware that I had been buying day old sandwiches and not regular sandwiches and had the nerve to simply inquire about the difference in pricing. What a horribly rude thing I did.. How dare I? Also totally inappropriate for the owner to go into the database and call my personal cell phone. The owner was angry and the call felt like a threat. (They had my number from a previous time I used a gift certificate)

What a great spot. High quality food and really reasonable prices. The employees clearly took a lot of pride in their food. I ordered the sausage sandwich and the Guinness mustard was delish. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a quick bite!

Go here your first day in Steamboat. Perfect place to stock up on sandwiches, dips, casseroles, etc.

What a a grand idea for this town. The Drunken Onion allows for quick, easy, fresh food at home without the hassle of cooking. The 5-onion soup was disappointing and I would not get that again but the pizzas and appetizers were spectacular. I will be eating here many more times on my trips to Steamboat!

This place is self-described as the "get and go kitchen" and that is exactly what it is. It reminds me of the fabulous prepared foods section at Whole Foods. Large fridges full of tasty homemade take home meals. I had the meatloaf burger and my bf had the duck cassoulet. Both re-heated wonderfully in the hotel. It's a bit pricey but cheaper than a fancy dinner out and well worth it when you don't want to deal with going out that night. Perfect take home dinner.

The Drunken Onion catered my wedding the beginning of January. This was a destination wedding and thus, I was not able to do a personal taste testing but rather had to rely on local expert and reputation. Ben and his staff at the drunken onion surpassed my expectations. Ben created a personal menu specific to my taste--something that he did not even specialize in. However, Ben listened to my ideas and accommodated to all of our needs. The guest are still raving about how excellent the food was. The staff members were polite and helpful. Ben ensured that everyone was please and offered to continue his efforts to help even after the wedding had ended. I would definitely hire the Drunken Onion again without hesitation.

I really, really, really wanted to love The Drunken Onion because it serves up gorgeous looking gourmet take-home food and the employees are so freaking friendly. We accidentally walked in the back entrance of the shop, so felt like we were intruding a bit on the kitchen, but everyone was like "It's cool. C'mon in!" It's a small space filled with jam-packed refrigerators: a bevy of soup selections, cold pasta salads, appetizers, entrees, several fresh salad options, wraps, sandwiches, fresh cheeses, DIY guacamole - the works. They also stock a small selection of unique sodas, and we were intrigued by the rhubarb variety. It's a little pricey, but Steamboat is the kind of town that can support expensive take home food. Plus, $45 for three people isn't all that bad compared to dinner almost anywhere in town. The high points: the Greek Salad and lasagna were delicious, fresh and flavorful. The low points: The salmon with cilantro rice and the enchiladas looked a lot better than they actually tasted. And the rhubarb soda didn't have any flavor. Bummer. Coming right off a holiday I wonder if perhaps the flavor of the dishes was compromised by sitting in the fridge an extra day or something, but that's just a guess. This place has all the makings of a fantastic get-and-go spot, so I hope we just got stuff on an off night!

Visited Drunken Onion while on vacation in Steamboat. The head chef was great, easily accessible and willing to tell us all about the foods ("I don't make anything I don't like, so everything here is good"). They have a wall of refrigerators with soups, entrees, desserts, and some take-and-bake items. We stopped in for lunch. My mom is an excellent cook and can usually find fault with many food places; she loved the lamb stew and even asked the chef about an ingredient/flavor she couldn't place...that doesn't happen much. Anyways, a bit more than you might expect to pay for a quick stop meal (cup soup, sandwich, 2 waters came to $17), but the ingredients are fresh, the choices are healthy, and the portions are large enough to take part home.

The Onion cannot be equalled for a wonderful take away meal! Had the rotisserie chicken and cant go back to city market ever again as the Onion's has no equal. Keep it up Ben and the team!
